During sophomore year, we had to write a research paper on a world problem. I chose to write about a problem that was going on in Yemen at the time; the invasion of Al-Qaeda and its effect on the country. I have to say that it was quite difficult to research due to the fact that numerous articles and news reports were in Arabic and was difficult for me to understand, but nevertheless, I found other reliable articles and even turned to some family that lived in Yemen at the time and were experiencing the troubles.

Junior year came with numerous projects and assignments, but I have to say that the desmos project was the most fun to do. Having experience with graphing on desmos from Algebra 1, our dearest Jon Pabico decided to give everyone a word and they would have to graph that word in both lowercase and uppercase letters, along with two different fonts. I found myself really good graphing and even created an image a dove to add on to the project.

Creating a science fair project has always been a struggle for me since the beginning. I would look at various topics and there would be numerous topics that sparked my interest and it was hard for me to hose between them. During junior year, I knew that I didn't want to just pull a topic from online but I wanted to create one. With the help of Patricia and my interest in duckweed, we came up with the perfect project: Will duckweed decrease or increase the amount of nitrates in the solution within 3 weeks? I then ran my experiment at school for a couple of weeks and created my science fair board. I happy to say that after presenting to the Berkeley judges, I won 1st place.
